There has been an alarming spike in the number of people testing positive for COVID-19 quite recently, and the second wave appears to be more dangerous than the first. Countries are once again implementing lockdowns and travel bans and with this kind of global crisis, it is more important than ever to practice different methods of self-care. The best ways to keep yourself safe from the coronavirus disease is to practice social distancing and washing your hands frequently, but there are some other practices that you should consider adding into your lifestyle.

This includes exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet and getting a proper amount of sleep. You should also limit consumption of alcohol and refrain from smoking. You need to give your immune system a boost in order to help in fight against COVID-19. Ido Fishman has recommended some foods that you can eat for doing so. Take a look at what they are:

  • Vegetables and greens

As they provide you with the most nutrients, vegetables should be on top of the list. But, eating your greens doesn’t need to be a chore. Ido Fishman recommends that you mix things up by experimenting with various recipes. For instance, mushrooms can come in handy for boosting immunity, so you can add some to your pasta or in your sandwich. Both garlic and ginger can also provide you with anti-inflammatory benefits, so you should add them in your diet. They boost the production of white blood cells in the body, which fight off the virus. You can just saute some garlic in a pan with butter and add it to your morning toast. Other vegetables that Ido Fishman suggests for boosting immunity include broccoli, avocado, spinach, bell peppers and sweet potato.

  • Nuts and seeds

Experts like Ido Fishman will tell you that some of the best immune-boosting foods out there are none other than nuts and seeds. You can never go wrong with sunflower seeds, walnuts and almonds. Most of the nuts are packed with antioxidants and healthy fats and provide your body with the essential vitamins you need. Eating a handful of almonds every day can also meet your daily requirement of Vitamin E. The nuts can be grinded to fine dust in a blender and then used for garnishing salads, cakes and smoothies. You can also use a chopper for slicing them into fine slivers and add them to your gravies.

  • Fruits and berries

There are plenty of fruits out there that can boost immunity, but citrus fruits are the best at doing this. They can provide the highest amount of Vitamin C, which is an essential nutrient for the human body. You can go through the Ido Fishman blog to find out the health benefits of Vitamin C, which include producing white blood cells and building the immune system. You can incorporate lemon, grapefruit and oranges to get enough Vitamin C.

Berries are another good option for boosting your immunity in a delightful way. You can eat strawberries, acai berries, raspberries and blueberries, as they are rich in antioxidants that can help the body in fighting off viruses and disease. Stock your fridge with these berries and you can use them for making different kinds of smoothies to increase your consumption.

  • Dairy

There are certain types of dairy that can be quite beneficial for the human body and the immune system, which include yogurt and cheese. The former comprises of probiotics that improve gut health and fight disease. The latter comprises of zinc, which also improves the immune system and helps fight off disease. Ido Fishman says that you can eat them plain, or they can be paired with other foods for increasing flavor.

As long as you incorporate these foods in your diet, Ido Fishman states that you will be able to enhance your immunity to fight off against the coronavirus and maintain your strength.
